Conditions favourable, light varaiable tail wind, sunny wit a bit of Cloud

The first Aus crew to start was meant to be the women's 2-. in the 2nd race of the day. They did not start and following the non start of the w4-, w4x M2-# 2 crew, It became apparent that there was a likely covid issue. On interviewing some coaches at the end of the morning session, they confirmed it was indeed a covid problem, contracted at the Henley regatta last weekend. I did make comment in an earlier blog questioning why the team was competing at Henley.In other events Aus M2X won their heat moving directly into the semis. The M2- # 1 CREW finished 2nd heading to a rep. The M4- started in their normal way. and held off a fast finishing Italian crew.

The womens eight in the exhibition race finished 3rd, while the mens 8 led ll the way to finish in front of the German 8 and headed to the final.

Tomorrow is semi final day a big day. My predictions for the finals will be on the blog after the semis on Saturday.

I have arrived in Lucerne and looking foward to racing starting in the morning. It starts at 9.00am with heats of the womens 2-. Heats for all boats are raced tomorrrow and in the afternoon a number of repechages will be raced, it's a big day of racing, What can team Aus serve up after a average start at Henley, I will give you an honest appraisal at the conclusion of racing,

The Aus 8's found wanting.

I watched the finals of HRR today.

Very tight racing in the mens 2x and the mens 4- the two eights looked unimpressive..

The Women sat still as the GB 8 rowed past them at half way and kept moving away, The AUS crew included the rated 4- so it was the top 8 AUS women taking on what the British commentators said was a new inexperienced combination.

The men's 8 chased the GB 8 all the way but were beaten convincingly. Lot of physicality in the AUS boat smashing the catches and chasing arses all the way.

The Aus team heads to Lucerne next week end for WC 3.

I will be on the spot and will post a daily summary.

WC 2 Poznan Q'arlos reports

From Poznan to Pimms, Strawberries & cream

World Cup 2 was raced in Poznan last weekend.
The Aus team competed in Toto apart from the mens 1x who I deduced was injured. I watched the replays since the weekend
.The water conditions for the final seemed quite variable perhaps a cross head
.There were quite a few notable absentees I.e Poms, Ita, US big boats
.however the racing was intense. The sincovic brothers were impressive in the 2x. They just love racing.
.As expected the 2 Aus 4's won their finals but were closely pursued. These events will be of interest moving to Lucerne and the World champs.. It would appear the opposition are closing.

In the 8’s Aus men followed a New German 8 down the course. More opposition in Lucerne will indicate what speed they have.

In the womens equiv Aus finished 3rd following the Danes & Dutch 8's.
They would appear to be off the pace; a visible absence of consistent 2k speed. With more pace coming in the likes of Roms, Poms, China, the US. Not sure what the Kiwis are up to. Regardless they have a challenge ahead.

So the team heads to Henley Royal next week. A costly & time consuming event raced in match racing format.It is a great social event for the Pom blue bloods and Aus mums, dads and the Head master of the Kings school's entourage in Sydney who can get on the Fizz and demonstrate all thats good about the antipodes.

Some of the crews could possibly benefit by staying in Europe and train.

Holaa Madrid

Arrived yesterday pm. Very eventful trip as expected with COVID rules & regs. The day was topped off nicely when the lift at my accommodation. was not working. Better still I am on the 5th floor. My bag is 22kg. Heart rate was up up up on the journey to the 5th. Lift is now working. It is a tad warm in old Madrid today. 40c. Ha Ha,
